Dear Friends and Family, As you know, on April 9, 2003 I began my six month adventure to hike the entire length of the 2,167 mile Appalachian Trail. It was truly the experience of a lifetime! I spent many hours in solitude surrounded by the beauty of the natural world, entranced by the wonder of a tiny orange newt, a spider's web, a delicate flower, or the spectacular scenery of unspoiled mountain ridges. I faced a few scary situations and learned to trust my own instincts. I was repeatedly humbled by the awesome power of lightning storms, flooding streams, snow, sleet and rain, cold and heat. But best of all were the people I met along the way. Many generous trail angels, kind strangers and wonderful hiking companions crossed my path over the six months. I am most grateful to Firefeet, Fickle, and Footslogger with whom I formed strong bonds of friendship. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your incredible support and expressions of care. Your many care packages and letters kept me going when I grew weary. On October 19, 2003 I summited Mt. Katahdin and completed the trail. As you know, my Beloved joined me for the final ascent and proposed marriage on top of the final mountain! And so, one adventure ends and the next great adventure begins... Please send me an email if you would like a copy of my slide show with original music by my AT friend, Dandelion John.
